How to Keep Your Shoes Dry on a Mud Run
First, take out the shoelaces. This will help you clean out the mud from the inside of your shoes more easily, as well as open up the tongue. Mud under your shoelaces can cause mold, odor and ruin your shoes. If the lace is knotted or twisted, you can cut it off. If you’re unable to replace the lace, you can purchase new ones at any place you buy shoes.
Duct tape
Duct tape is also a good option to keep your shoes safe while on a mud run. Mud is sticky and it will stick to your shoes. Tape them to your shoes if you don’t want them to be dirty for 15 minutes after the race. Mud will stick to your clothes, so make sure you have a spare set.
Many obstacle racers visit the duct tape section at home improvement stores in the hope that duct tape will help them keep their shoes on. This is a dangerous idea. Even though experienced obstacle racers know duct tape won’t work, novices still use it on their shoes. Here are some tips for duct tape for shoes on a mud run:
Compression shorts
Compression shorts are great for keeping cool and comfortable in damp conditions. You can wear them on a mud run or any other activity where moisture is an issue. Compression shorts can be breathable and moisture-wicking. Flatlock seams reduce irritation. They are also ergonomically designed to allow for more movement. To stay cool and comfortable on the course, it is important to keep your shorts dry.
You can wear runner’s shorts to the office instead of compression briefs. If they don’t mind the look and feel of compression shorts, a runner’s brief is an option. You can also wear compression shorts while running. They will keep mud at bay and prevent wires from catching on your shorts. Most men wear compression shorts, while others prefer shorts.
Gore-Tex
Gore-Tex is a waterproof fabric that keeps your shoes dry in muddy conditions. Although the fabric repels water well, it traps water inside the shoe making it heavy and squishy. If your shoes have Gore-Tex in them, you may find yourself running in four to five times more water than before.
Salomon Speedcross 5 GTX has a Goretex membrane in the upper. This shoe is designed for wet conditions. This shoe also has a lightweight, well-cushioned midsole, which is great for cushioning your heel. The shoe also has a comfortable Speedcross fit and a sturdy toe bumper for protection from rocks and debris.
Gore-Tex
What is GORETEX? It’s a type of fabric made of three layers: a conventional outer shell fabric, a microporous Teflon layer, and a layer of nylon. Teflon is the same chemical used to make non-stick cookware. Roy Plunkett accidentally invented it in 1938. It is an excellent waterproofing material and is highly regarded by outdoor sportsmen.
The GORE-TEX membrane is a part of the Gore family of consumer products, developed by W. L. Gore and Associates. It is highly breathable, waterproof, and has been used for many years in clothing, footwear, and accessories. Some products can be used in medical or industrial applications. GORETEX garments are a great choice for extreme environments regardless of their use.
